Capt. Rafe Stricter is on a covert mission in South America with one of his men. They are to scout out the target, give a signal and the air troops will blow it into oblivion. No one counted on his friend getting hurt. He and Rafe seek refuge in a cave, preparing for a certain death. Yet when the bombs hit, Rafe and Craig are hurled more than 100 years into the past where they encounter Lorilie McCaully and her friend Marica. They are part of a group called "The Gifted." Couple their special talents with the men's fighting skills and the group stands a chance against the feared Ketchums, a group of men determined to make Lorilie theirs. In the meantime, Rafe must cope with the complexities of being in the past - and deal with his growing attraction to Lorilie. In the process, he discovers that he has gifts of his own in this untamed time.
