Reviewer Comments: Through the mists of time two people seek each other, in one moment, they were fighting a battle over land in the next they were spinning through time to land in the future.

Eva Samisdottir (also known as the Protector) arrived in the future and was convicted of murder and sentenced to jail. While on the inside she stays quiet but learns much. A lawyer named Mike looks at her case and fights for justice on her behalf. When she gets out of jail, she learns more about this time and learns to assimilate into current day life. She eventually finds out that Ofrieg is the warrior she was battling but by this time she is in love with him. Once married, Eva and Ofrieg return to their time to fight battles together.

Ofieg Nabboddrson is a wealthy man in this time and has spent many years trying to find Eva so that he can make amends. He finds her through Mike the lawyer. He realizes many things about himself when he falls in love with Eva. When they are back in time, he also understands that he needs to treat her as a precious gem. When they return to their own time newly married, Ofieg does not take the same amount of care with Eva that his brother’s wives have and he almost loses her through his lack of thought and carelessness.

This story has many time travellers and it is a pendent that is responsible for them to be able to transfer between times. Many of Ofieg’s brothers have wives from future times and it shows an interesting perspective into the lives of these time travellers. In one smaller thread, one of the husband’s dies and his wife goes back in time to bring another incarnation of the man back so that she can have the man she loves all the time understanding the risks.

As with many other time travel stories, I often wonder how this will be handled as getting it wrong can really throw the reader. Ms Dee handles the time travel well and is also able to provide a reason for the travellers and their appearance in the different times so that they don’t meet their future or past being. This is not the case for one of the characters who meets her young self when she comes back to the 900s but it doesn’t seem to be an issue. I enjoyed this story and would love to read the stories of the other brothers to see how it all connects. This is a standalone so you do not have to have read the others to enjoy the story.
